“Assistance of the European Union does contribute to Ukraine’s development and the implementation of new dimensions of international cooperation,” – Dmytro Razumkov

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Razumkov held a meeting with the Commissioner of the EC Directorate-General of European Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations Oliver Varhelyi.

Dmytro Razumkov congratulated Mr. Varhelyi on taking the office and noted the consolidated and effective work between the Ukrainian parliament and the European partners.

The speaker of parliament stated that the movement of Ukraine to the European Union is enshrined in the Constitution of Ukraine and that there is a continuous cooperation in many areas between Ukraine and the EU.

“Implementation of the Association Agreement provisions as well as the EU macro-financial assistance are both fundamentally important to us. European support contributes to the development of the country and the implementation of new directions of international cooperation,” Dmytro Razumkov emphasized.

The Verkhovna Rada Chairman informed representatives of the European Commission about Ukraine’s current transformations that all are aimed at creating cleared conditions for attracting investments and called on to promote the process. He also stressed the need for supporting and further developing the “Eastern Partnership Plus” project with the participation of the three EU associated countries - Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia (Sakartvelo).

According to the official, the issues of security, territorial integrity, restoration of borders of the occupied regions and the return of Crimea are very important for further cooperation.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada thanked for the principled standpoint of the European Union in respect of these issues.

In his turn, the Commissioner of the Directorate-General of European Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations Oliver Varhelyi noted Ukraine's rapid reform efforts and assured of the EU's continued support to Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Oliver Varhelyi stressed again his readiness to continue working together to create a new strong economy for the sake of Ukraine's well-being.
