The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted as a basis the draft law on sanctions

( Information Department of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariat )

The bill (Reg. No. 4453а) suggests establishing that in order to protect national interests, national security, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, its economic independence, and to prevent violating or restoring the violated rights, freedoms and legal interests of Ukrainian citizens, society or the state, special economic and other restrictive measures (hereinafter – sanctions) can be applied.

Sanctions can be applied on the part of Ukraine to a foreign state, foreign legal or physical person, citizens of Ukraine, legal entities created according to the legislation of Ukraine, and other subjects.

Applying sanctions does not exclude applying other measures of protecting national interests, national security, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, its economic independence, rights, freedoms and legal interests of Ukrainian citizens, society and the state.

According to the legislative act, the Constitution of Ukraine, international agreements of Ukraine, Laws of Ukraine, legal acts of the President of Ukraine and of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, decisions of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, respective principles and norms of the international law constitute the legal basis of the sanctions.

The legislative act also suggests determining bases for applying sanctions and types of sanctions.
