D.Razumkov, A.Norlen meet to talk on peace, security and capable int’l institutions

( Information Department of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariat )

“We will look for partners to strengthen the Council of Europe, because it is really important for democracy,” -- Dmytro Razumkov

The speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Razumkov met with the speaker of the Swedish parliament (Riksdag) Andreas Norlen.

During the meeting, the heads of parliament discussed a number of issues of common interest, in particular the issues of peace and security, building of capable international institutions.

“I want to thank you for the support that we feel towards Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.  Your encouragement at the Council of Europe is also important to us,” the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada noted.

The heads of parliament also exchanged their views upon the situation with the return of the Russian delegation to the PACE.

“The deal on the Russian comeback seems to be quite obscure to us. It is about the PACE member that does not fulfill even its own obligations. As an aside, equally incomprehensible there is the situation with powers of Ukraine’s delegation.  It does not meet the basic principles of the Council of Europe.  We will look for partners to strengthen the Council of Europe, because it is really important for democracy and observance of human rights throughout Europe.  But it is also necessary to take into account the considerations of territorial integrity and protection of national interests,” Dmytro Razumkov stressed.

The speaker of the Ukrainian parliament stressed that it is extremely important for people to understand and remember what has been happening in Eastern Ukraine.

At the end of the meeting, Dmytro Razumkov expressed his hope that relations between Sweden and Ukraine would continue move in a positive direction.
