Second Inter-Parliamentary Conference

09 June 2018, 10:48

Irakli Kobakhidze speaks at Conference

( Information Department of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariat )

“Creation of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova embodies the common interests and common aspirations of the three countries,” – Irakli Kobakhidze, the Georgian Parliament’s Speaker

In his speech, the politician stated: “We, the parliamentary leaders of  three countries - Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova - are signing this statement on the formation of an assembly representing our common interests and common aspirations of the three countries".

He remarked that the joint assembly reflects the common interests of the three countries, reflects the past, present and future of the three countries. According to him, since independence the countries have been struggling with common problems, defending their territorial integrity, having common aspirations to become members of the Western family.

"Inherently, we do believe that cooperation with European, Euro-Atlantic communities will be based on the national achievements of the past, as well as the corresponding aspirations we shall be pursuing on behalf of the people," stated the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament.

He also stressed that the creation of the assembly is not just a political gesture, it is a declaration of commitment to future in-depth cooperation, which crisscrosses ideological and political directions, and unites us in the historical dimension.

Irakli Kobakhidze expressed his hope that the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine would serve as a bridge between the national parliaments and European and American colleagues.

He observed that the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly has a big task.  The three states are in regional instability, having external attacks against their sovereignty and territorial integrity from the side of Russia as well. The governments of Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia are in a productive co-working.

“The inter-parliamentary cooperation shall provide additional strategic components to our interaction," said Irakli Kobakhidze, having then added that the inter-parliamentary assembly would surely deepen the strong longstanding historical ties between our peoples.
