"The MP will lose the mandate if the court finds him guilty of impersonal voting," Dmytro Razumkov

( Information Department of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariat )

The MP of Ukraine will lose his powers if the court finds him guilty of impersonal voting, which is a criminal offense. This was stated by Chairperson of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Razumkov.

“Button-pressing is a criminal offense, so the decision will be made under the current Criminal Procedure Code. If the court decision comes into force, the People's Deputy ceases to be the MP of Ukraine.  Almost automatically," remarked the Speaker of the Parliament.

Dmytro Razumkov noted that the Verkhovna Rada takes a comprehensive approach to the issue of combating button-pressing.  there are already the first solutions.

"Seats in the back rows, which are not assigned to the MPs and where such shameful phenomena may have taken place, are disconnected from the "Rada" system. We hope that in the near future we will be able to attach the deputy's card to a specific place. And we will actually be able to see from which place MP voted," Dmytro Razumkov said.

The Speaker of the Parliament also added that it is planned to install four additional video surveillance cameras in the plenary hall.

"The maximum program is to switch to the new Rada system or its analogues in order to completely prevent impersonal voting. There are different options, starting with the touch buttons, and ending with a fingerprint.  But I would like the button-pressing to remain in history and the latest events to be only in the chronicles, and not in the walls of the parliament," Dmytro Razumkov stressed.

At the same time, he noted that in the current convocation of the Verkhovna Rada, button-pressing is rare. But the leadership of the Parliament will make efforts to get rid of such cases completely.
