"The Verkhovna Rada expects from the NATO Summit in Brussels a clear position of the Alliance on supporting Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic aspirations and providing the MAP," Olena Kondratiuk

The Verkhovna Rada expects from the NATO Summit in Brussels a clear position and a statement of the Alliance in support of Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic aspirations and strengthening of the 'Open Door' policy. This was emphasized by Deputy Chairperson of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk during the Conciliation Council of Deputy Factions and Groups.
"Taking this opportunity, on behalf of the Parliament of Ukraine, I would like to thank the leaders of Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia, who agreed on the common position on supporting Ukraine and Georgia on the path to NATO. This statement was made on the eve of today's Summit," Olena Kondratiuk stressed.
She reminded that the Conciliation Council takes place on the day of the NATO Summit in Brussels, and the day before the MPs took part in the Kyiv Youth Security Forum. The event brought together Ukrainian youth, politicians and diplomats in a shared vision of Ukraine's future as a NATO member. The forum also discussed the need to provide the NATO Membership Action Plan for Ukraine in the near future.
The Deputy Speaker stressed that NATO membership should be determined solely by compliance with standards and preparedness, and not by the international situation or the desire to irritate the aggressor less.
"I am convinced that Ukraine meets the criteria for providing the MAP. We are ready to start implementing the Action Plan immediately if such a decision is made. Now there is only one question: when we will be in NATO and what more key state institutions have to do: the Verkhovna Rada, the President and the Government to accelerate Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration," Olena Kondratiuk said.
She added that the Parliament and the relevant committees have enough expertise to legally support all the changes necessary for Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration by the end of 2021. She also called for intensified Inter-Parliamentary cooperation with the NATO member states to strengthen Ukraine's European integration aspirations.
According to the Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, NATO countries must have clearly realized that without the support of Ukraine as a democratic country that has chosen its Euro-Atlantic integration course at the level of the Constitution, Europe will never be safe.
