MPs take part in the 142nd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly

On May 26 and 27, 2021, the 142nd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly take place.
MPs joined the events of the Inter-Parliamentary Union online: Head of the Delegation Olha Rudenko, members of the delegation: Lesya Vasylenko (member of the Forum of Women MPs of the IPU), Alyona Shkrum (member of the Bureau of the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security) and Dmytro Shpenov.
On the eve of the 142nd Assembly, meetings of the Steering Board of the Inter-Parliamentary Union took place on May 24 and 25, 2021, attended by MPs of Ukraine, in particular, meetings of the '12 Plus' geopolitical group, the IPU Committees, the Women's Parliamentarians' Forum and the Young Parliamentarians' Forum.
According to the results of the Steering Board of the IPU, the election of Lesya Vasylenko to the position of the President of the Forum was approved by the Women's Parliamentarians' Forum, and the election of Olga Rudenko by the 12 Plus Geopolitical Group to the Board of the Forum of Young MPs of the IPU, and the extension of Alona Shkrum in the Bureau of the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security.
The main issues of the above-mentioned meetings were preparation for the 142nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, including discussion of reports of Standing Committees for consideration by the Assembly, selection of candidates for governing bodies of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, reports on IPU working bodies and discussion of global challenges.
In their speeches during the meetings of the working bodies and accompanying events to the 142nd Assembly of the IPU, members of the Verkhovna Rada delegation informed colleagues about the security situation in Eastern Ukraine and Crimea, as well as a new international initiative - "Crimean Platform".
Two meetings of the 142nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union will take place on 26 and 27 May, during which speeches by national delegations of the Member States and the adoption of two resolutions are planned - "Parliamentary Strategies for Strengthening Peace and Security and Counteracting the Threats and Conflicts Caused by Climate Disasters and Their Consequences" and "Disseminating Digitalisation and a Closed Economy to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, especially Responsible Consumption and Production".
