( Information Department of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariat )

The online conference on "Inclusion and Human Rights" was held in the Parliament today. The event was timed to coincide with the International Day for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which is celebrated annually on May 5 to draw public attention to the problems of people with disabilities.
Participants discussed prospects and challenges in the field of inclusion, legislative initiatives, the activities of regional resource-inclusive centers, issues of inclusion in education, accessibility of infrastructure and more.
Deputy Chairperson of the Committee on Human Rights, Deoccupation and Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories in Donetsk, Luhansk Regions and Autonomous Republic of Crimea, National Minorities and Interethnic Relations Nellie Yakovleva noted that the rights of people with disabilities are violated more often, but they must have the right to free education, work, access to infrastructure. She reminded that in 2020 Ukraine joined the Biarritz Partnership international initiative, one of the tasks of which is the absence of restrictions on any grounds and the creation of an inclusive space.
The participants of the event stressed the need to strengthen educational work on inclusion. Taras Pastushenko, Head of the Information Department of the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, said that the Department would further initiate thematic round tables and conferences on these issues and would involve profile committees in this work.
A video tour of the history of the Parliament and the creation of a barrier-free space in the Verkhovna Rada building was presented during the event.
