Vice speaker receives Czech parliamentary delegation to foster bilateral ties

( Information Department of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariat )

"At the international level, support of every European country is of great moment to Ukraine," -- Olena Kondratiuk

The vice speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk met with a delegation of the Defence Committee of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, headed by the committee chairperson Yana Chernokhova.

During the meeting, the parties stressed the importance of cooperation in all international structures, including the PACE, OSCE and NATO, at the inter-parliamentary level, in the sphere of defence as well as in the field of security in particular.

O. Kondratiuk thanked Yana Chernokhova for the Czech Government’s decision to accept wounded Ukrainian soldiers for treatment in Czechia. She voiced her hopes that in the near future there would be signed a relevant agreement between defence agencies of the two countries. The vice speaker stressed that the new Ukrainian government would continue to actively develop bilateral relations with the Czech Republic.

According to her, with only concerted efforts of the entire international community, including the Czech Republic, there would be possible to stave off further aggravation in the east of Ukraine and overcome consequences caused by the Russia's military aggression against Ukraine and the entire international security system.

“We appreciate harsh sanctions imposed by the EU against Russia. A strict ban on military and technical cooperation with the Kremlin should remain an integral part of these sanctions,” the vice speaker underscored. In this context, the politician drew attention to the statement made by the Czech President Milos Zeman in his interview to the Slovak newspaper “Pravda” regarding the would-be lifting of sanctions against the Russian Federation.

Olena Kondratiuk observed that the issue of lifting sanctions by other states is of fundamental concern to Ukraine, because every day Ukraine defends not only itself, but is the guardian of common European values as well.

O. Kondratiuk also emphasized the importance of contacts at the level of parliamentary committees.

The vice speaker of the Verkhovna Rada paid special attention to the issue of the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak and stressed the need for closer interaction between the Czech Republic and Ukraine on this problem.

"It is important to exchange the information and consolidate all efforts of healthcare pros at counteracting the wide spread of this insidious virus sweeping across the continent," Olena Kondratiuk stated.
