Extraordinary session of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine

( Information Department of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariat )

311 MPs have registered to partake in this special sitting.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Razumkov opened the extraordinary plenary session of the Ukrainian parliament.

The Chairman underlined that the current extraordinary plenary session of the Parliament is held in connection with the request of 152 Ukrainian parliamentarians to convoke an extraordinary plenary session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the ninth convocation and in accordance with part eight of Article 19 of the Verkhovna Rada’s rules of procedure.

Reportedly, the special sitting will solely be dedicated to expressing distrust to Ukraine’s prosecutor general Ruslan Riaboshapka.

It was then reminded that expression of distrust towards the prosecutor general does fall under the Verkhovna Rada’s authority, thus resulting in his immediate resignation.

Later on, the Chairman specificated that the distrust motion had been triggered off by 158 members of parliament.

By 279 ayes, the motion was then included in the agenda of the third session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the ninth convocation. The Chairman therefore elaborated on the ensuing procedure.

He then gave the floor to members of parliament to speak on the issue.

After the speeches, the Prosecutor General R.Riaboshapka was accorded the right to reply. The dignitary reported on the prosecution agencies reform and on what had been done in the last three months. He also then told about the state of play in the so called Maidan investigations and war-related cases. R. Riaboshapka emphasized that the resolution submitted is solely based on straightforward lies and manipulations. "I am getting out now, but I leave to return," the Prosecutor General concluded and left the chamber.

Representatives of parliamentary factions and groups took part in the discussion on the issue.

The presiding officer put the distrust resolution No.3154 to the vote. By 263 votes in favour, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Ruslan Riaboshapka was ousted from office.

The presiding officer closed the extraordinary session of the parliament.
