Verkhovna Rada fosters friendly ties with Bulgaria through parliamentary friendship group

( Information Department of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariat )

A parliamentary group on inter-parliamentary relations with Bulgaria has held today an official meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to Ukraine.

The parliamentary group on inter-parliamentary relations with the Republic of Bulgaria had today a meeting with the participation of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria, Kostadin Kodzhabashev. Participants of the event noted that Ukraine and Bulgaria have a long common history and traditionally friendly ties.

A co-chair of the Ukraine-Bulgaria parliamentary group of the Verkhovna Rada MP Tetiana Plachkova informed that the friendship group consists now of 12 persons and then expressed her hope that it would have more members. “We do have much in common - a shared history, common traditions, deep economic and cultural ties, and at this bilateral platform we will try to further deepen them and do everything to ensure that the life of Ukrainians in Bulgaria and vice versa become better,” Tetiana Plachkova said.

Another co-chair of the Ukraine-Bulgaria friendship group MP Oleksandr Kopylenko thanked the Embassy for its cooperation and stated that he looked forward to further fruitful interaction.

Speaking at the meeting, Kostadin Kodzhabashev, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to Ukraine, stressed that “…Bulgaria strongly supports Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, including its territorial waters. We do uphold Ukraine’s European and Euro-Atlantic orientation   and are prepared to share our experience to help you overcome difficulties on this laborious pathway”.

Kostadin Kodzhabashev also expressed his conviction that further activities of the group "…will put new heart and widen the bridge for a quick build-up of our bilateral relations, as well as for faster constructing our common European house”.

Tetiana Plachkova also encouraged members of the friendship group to make their proposals towards establishing and improving ties between the two countries.

The event was attended by Ukrainian parliamentarians, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to Ukraine Kostadin Kodzhabashev, the First Secretary of the Bulgarian Embassy and the Cultural Attache Veselka Rangelova, members of the public, including NGO “The National Assembly of Bulgaria in Ukraine”.
