The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada O. Moroz Had a Meeting with the Heads of Structural Subdivisions of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariate concerning the Results of the Third Session and the Assignments for the Parliament

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada Olexandr Moroz had a meeting with the Heads of structural subdivisions of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariate concerning the results of the Third Session and the assignments for the Parliament.

At the beginning of the meeting O. Moroz stated that "at present, efforts of the management of The Verkhovna Rada and Secretariate are focused on the neutralization of external influence that hampers the work of Parliament."

Addressing the Heads of structural subdivisions of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariate, O. Moroz stressed that "the Parliament should work better regardless of political situation."

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine reported on the achievements of the Parliament of the 5th Convocation and the last Session in particular, and on the results of the 16th OSCE Parliamentary Assembly held in Kyiv on 5-9 July 2007.  

Dwelling on organizational provision of the OSCE PA Session, O. Moroz highly appreciated well-coordinated work of representatives of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariate concerning organization and holding of this event on a due level. O. Moroz also reported on rewarding work of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Session that was closed in July.

According to the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada, the Parliament considered all 610 scheduled issues for 62 plenary days. Moreover, four Parliamentary sittings and Day of Government were held within the last session.

Fifty five laws were considered and twenty two adopted for this period of time.

Eleven laws, aimed at entry of Ukraine into the World Trade Organization, were considered during the session. On the whole, 32 laws concerning the WTO were adopted during the session.

O. Moroz called for improvement of work on basic laws and for concentration on the quality of their preparation. This especially concerns bills on land issues, local government etc.  

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada also called for intensification of cooperation between the Parliament and the Government, and for establishing cooperation with electors.

O. Moroz considers classification and codification of legislation as one more important challenge of the Parliament´s Secretariate.

According to O. Moroz, the main task of information services is "to develop respect of the public towards parliamentarism as cornerstone of human rights protection."

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada initiated establishment of a Museum of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and requested to form a working group on this issue.
