Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk met with Vice Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia Dagmara Beitnere-Le Galla.

According to Olena Kondratiuk, this is her second meeting with the leadership of the Latvian Parliament in the last two months. “In August, we also met with the Vice-Speaker of the Saeima of Latvia, Ms. Inese Libina-Egnere. This is a clear indication of the strengthening of inter-parliamentary ties between our states,” she stressed.

“It is also a great honor for us that Latvia is represented at a high level at events commemorating the victims of the Babyn Yar tragedy,” the Vice Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament added.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the common historical past of the two nations, the restoration and preservation of the historical memory of the crimes of totalitarian regimes. “We have a common past, but we also have a common European future. We are very happy and proud that we have extremely friendly and partnership relations with Latvia, both at the interstate and interparliamentary level,” said Olena Kondratiuk.

The Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada also stressed that the Parliament of Ukraine highly appreciates the establishment of the Crimea Platform in the Latvian Parliament. In turn, Ms. Dagmara Beitnere-Le Galla assured that Ukraine, its sovereignty and territorial integrity are very important for Latvia. According to her, the Latvia is ready for active work within the Crimea Platform.

The participants of the meeting also discussed issues related to Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration and cooperation in the PACE within the framework of the Baltic + format and the intensification of Ukraine's cooperation with the Three Seas Initiative.

“We must work together to respond to the hybrid threats facing our countries and security across Europe. This is the need to jointly oppose Nord Stream-2 as a geopolitical project of the Russian Federation. It is also the application of all possible sanctions to the deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and the organizers of the illegal elections elected in the occupied Crimea,” Olena Kondratiuk stressed.

At the same time, the Vice Speaker of the Saeima Dagmara Beitnere-Le Galla noted that Latvia is ready to take decisive action in this direction together with Ukraine and expects appropriate steps from the Ukrainian side.
