RADA programme disciplines new lawmakers on rules of parliamentary procedure

( Information Department of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariat )

The RADA Programme conducted a training session for newly elected members of parliament on the rules of procedure of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine

Awareness and adherence to the Verkhovna Rada regulations is a prerequisite for an effective work of Ukrainian parliamentarians. It was the very regulations issue that the August 14-15 training, conducted by the USAID RADA Programme was dedicated to.

The trainees got acquainted with forms of parliamentary work and peculiarities of the voting procedure. They learned how laws are made, about the specifics of the constitutional process and the budget procedure.

Representatives of the People’s Servant and the European Solidarity parties took part in the session. Officials of the Verkhovna Rada Apparatus told about supporting of the legislature’s activities.

Representatives of NGO “Public Holding “Influence Group" briefed the attendees on the problems of internally displaced persons, including the challenges associated with the exercise of their common suffrage.

The government's gender policy commissioner Kateryna Levchenko also participated in the training session, having highlighted in her speech the issue of ensuring equality of rights for women and men.

This is the third induction session the RADA Programme has organized for newly elected MPs during this August. This very month, the Programme shall hold several more training sessions on the status of a Ukrainian parliamentarian and the Rada regulations issues.

Worthy of note

USAID RADA Programme: Responsible Accountable Democratic Assembly was launched in November 2013. The Programme's implementer is the East Europe Foundation, a Ukrainian non-profit organization, which joined forces with three other Ukrainian NGOs for the USAID RADA implementation: InterNews Ukraine, Agency for Legislative Initiatives, and Civil Network OPORA.

The Programme is also implemented by the Eastern Europe Foundation with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
