( Information Department of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariat )

The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy opened the   plenary meeting.

Today’s agenda

The Chairman briefed on the agenda items that had been proposed for reviewing today. The list of issues to be considered at the plenary meeting on June 18:

1.     Bill No.3112-1 of draft Electoral Code (second reading).

Iryna Herashchenko, the first vice speaker, spoke about sexual violence, which has rapidly developed in the zone of military conflict in eastern Ukraine and in the occupied Crimea. She outlined the scale of such crimes and emphasized that there were signally much more episodes, but it is not possible to obtain complete information due to utterly limited access to the occupied territories as well as to the hostages and the prisons. The parliamentarian also expressed the need to strengthen criminal liability for sexual crimes in conflict.

The presiding officer gave the floor to representatives of the parliamentary factions and groups to make their announcements, statements, reports, and proposals. MPs then proceeded with reviewing the second reading of the bill No.3112-1 on draft Electoral Code.

The amendment work shall continue tomorrow.
