On collaboration with NATO

“Cooperation with NATO is of mutual advantages to NATO and to Ukraine as the Ukrainian army is getting stronger with every passing day” – A. Parubiy

The Parliament’s Speaker Andriy Parubiy in his answers to “Rada” TV channel submitted comments over the NATO military standards to be introduced in Ukraine by 2020. According to the Chairperson, “reforms are going on today throughout the security sector and year 2020 has been publicly scheduled as the year when the Ukrainian security sector is to be aligned with NATO standards”.

Talking of accession to the Alliance, the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed that “we are also considering our own responsibility that Ukraine must meet the demands our armed forces are made on. We do understand when changing over to NATO standards, our army is at the same time fighting for the State of Ukraine against the Russian aggression, carrying out a hardline response to the hybrid warfare challenges developed against us by Putin”. A. Parubiy underscored that “Ukraine’s army and the security sector are gaining an unparalleled experience which is too of great importance to our NATO partners”.  He also highlighted that “cooperation with NATO is of mutual advantages to NATO and to Ukraine as the Ukrainian army is getting stronger with every passing day. I am convinced that the Ukrainian army will get a one of the most powerful European armies in the near future and be able to become a credible ally to the North Atlantic Alliance to defend the eastern borders of NATO”.

On UN and NATO top level visits

The visits of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization are the true hallmark that the strategic decision the Ukrainian Parliament has chosen is fully supported by our partners, who are ready for a closer collaboration.

The visits signify “a high level of confidence to Ukraine”. The NATO Secretary General’s speech in the Parliament of Ukraine confirmed that the pathway to NATO the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine chose by voting the Alliance to be one of the most essential foreign priorities is well backed by the partners, and they are ready to develop much tighter links with Ukraine.

On productive week of laws

Andriy Parubiy, the SpeakerThis week has been ample of the fundamental laws adopted by the state.

“Quite hard and loaded with work this week appeared to be. It brought us whole eight laws to deal with. Taking into account those six immunity-off claims, it was essential to me that each issue would go through the entire procedure”.

“I consider we managed to do our best about the last week agenda,” stressed the Chairperson. “What I could add, the education and medical reforms will be of top priority for the next session in autumn. MPs could spend the summer time to study the amendments submitted in order to speed up progress of the reforms”.

On stripping of parliamentary privilege

“The Parliament’s ability to deprive MPs of their privilege of parliament, their immunity has designated a new stage of development of the Ukrainian parliamentarism,” – A.Parubiy, the Parliament’s Speaker

The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine made a comment that the highlight of the last plenary week was deprivation of immunity of the six members of the Parliament. In his opinion, the key problem was whether the Parliament could be able to lift up the parliamentary privilege from coalition members of the House ruling majority. “It was for the first time in the Ukrainian Parliament’s history that the governing majority made such deprivations. It was a question of history, a question of philosophy to some extent”.

“The Parliament’s ability to deprive MPs of their privilege of parliament, their immunity designated a new stage of development of the Ukrainian parliamentary government, when we could see that the voting went regardless of the MPs’ political affiliation,” –  said A. Parubiy, the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament.
