Сhairman’s Chornobyl disaster address

( Information Department of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariat )

The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine gave his address to the Chornobyl disaster liquidators

Dear friends,

We are today paying homage to you, all who took part in the post-accident clean-up over the Chornobyl station. Notwithstanding there have thirty odd years passed since those formidable days, we up to now feel the aftermath of that awful, dire and tragical calamity.

The liquidators were people of various occupations, positions and tasks with different experience who managed to stop those “atoms for peace” at the hazard of their life and health. In those days of 1986, you were the ones who saved the world from the nuclear devastation. Your selflessness and bravery were and are the uppermost manifestation of heroism and love for your neighbor.

I feel sincere gratitude to you for your inestimable and sacrificial deed.

Standing in a profound bow, we cherish the loving memory of those fallen.

I wish you all a sound health, joy, peace and prosperity!
