Chairman’s programmatic briefing in Plavia

( Information Department of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariat )

A fleeting squiz at the Chairman’s Carpathian briefing

Plans for the week coming

Next week the Parliament reviews some bills on de-occupation of the Ukrainian territories and recognition of Russia as the aggressor state.  The issues are sizeable by volume with having some seven hundred amendments to talk over, and are supposed to be finished by this Thursday. The plenary week will also be dedicated to fuel and energy problems and transportation.  What is more to be discussed are there a range of social issues, domestic violence and personnel matters.

No change to Law on Education

The Chairman stressed there would not be any amendments made to the notorious law in question. The so much talked-of Article 7 of the law would not be altered as the recently gathered ad hoc task group agreed that the starting wording be left intact with the Venice Commission.

Two powers at handshake

“Teamplay between the legislative and executive powers is a powerful driving force for changes in our country,” said the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament. Just two of the visible performances of the above interplay were a timely adoption of the 2018 state budget, well before the New Year time, and the bulk of the laws on the medical, pension and judicial reforms approved.

On border cooperation

“The border collaboration and open national frontier may render an appreciable push forward to the regional investments and enhancing the regional touristic potential,” was a Chairman’s comment at the briefing.

Speaking at the panel discussion on financial tools for regional development in the Carpathians, A.Parubiy stressed that the region spanning eight states possessed a great development capability, having in mind there had been made a solid legal and contractual groundwork for such cooperation.

A.Parubiy reminded of the Border cooperation programme for 2016-2020 which provides for lifting up competitive strength of the border areas, upgrading the border crossing stations, making new roads and infrastructure facilities.

“We have to make the Carpathians to be the Region of Development, development of tourism, development of renewables, development of new business approaches and ecological advocacy,” stressed the Chairman. “This will allow it to lure more government and local money as well as the funds from investors from the outside. By developing the above expansion projects we are taking for the model the ways the Alps region is being developed for the time being”.

The event acquired a large attendance with participation of numerous Ukrainian and Polish high officials”.
