Balukh must live

( Information Department of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariat )

Parliamentarians sent an appeal to Volodymyr Balukh, a Ukrainian political prisoner in the Crimea, to stop the hunger strike

On April 6, 2018, parliamentarians - representatives of various factions of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine - appealed to Volodymyr Balukh, a Ukrainian political prisoner in the Crimea, to stop the starvation under threat of a rapid deterioration of his health and the risk of losing his life.

After the occupation, Volodymyr Balukh did not recognize the Russian authorities, continued to participate in pro-Ukrainian actions, and eventually was arrested several times for refusing to remove the Ukrainian flag from his home. After a plate of Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred appeared on his house, they came to Volodymyr Balukh with a search and "found some practice cartridges capable of firing."  As a result, the occupation court jailed Volodymyr for terms over three years.

In their address, the members of parliament expressed genuine respect to Volodymyr and his struggle, which sets an example for the whole country.  Parliamentarians also urged the Ukrainian political prisoner to stop the hunger strike.

The signers of the address are:

Refat Chubarov, Svitlana Zalishchuk, Mustafa Naiiem, Yehor Soboliev, Vladyslav Holub, Serhii Leshchenko, Valerii Karpuntsov, Yurii Solovei, Ivan Sporysh, Oleh Musii, Viktor Kryvenko, Volodymyr Areshonkov, Yurii Derevianko, Leonid Yemets, Tetiana Ostrikova, Mykhailo Holovko, Yurii Pavlenko, Andrii Biletskyi, Boryslav Bereza, Ihor Shurma, Viktor Vovk, Hennadii Kryvosheia.
