Committee on Foreign Affairs: With Georgia at heart

( Information Department of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariat )

The deputy head of the committee Borys Tarasiuk held a meeting with the Georgian parliamentary delegation, headed by George Mosidze, dedicated to inter-parliamentary co-operation of the countries.

There was a large attendance at the meeting, including a wide range of Georgian members of parliament and the Georgian Ambassador to Ukraine on the one hand, and a broad presence of known Ukrainian parliamentarians on the other hand.

The parties dwelled upon the state of play of the Ukraine-Georgia interrelations, and put a particular stress on the highly developed bilateral inter-parliamentary ties. The Strategic partnership agreement between Ukraine and Georgia recently signed by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in his visit to  Georgia, was highlighted at the meeting, along with the acute need in early de-occupation of the Ukrainian and Georgian territories, restoration of their territorial integrity within the internationally recognized borders, steady development of democracy and economic growth in Ukraine and Georgia, topping with the overall integration of the two countries in the EU and NATO.

The Georgian side stressed importance of bilateral inter-parliamentary group visits aimed to intensify the ties between the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Georgian Parliament and establish a favorable environment for further widening the political dialogue and comprehensive development of friendly relations between the countries. The cooperation within the frames of the Euronest PA and the OSCE was lime-lighted particularly in the light of the would-be de-occupation and restoration of territorial integrity of the countries.

The Ukrainian party informed the Georgian parliamentarians of the recently adopted laws purported at modernizing the Ukrainian legislation.
