Committee on Free Speech and Information Policy agrees to necessity for correcting process of printed media reform and starts discussion of priorities for 2017

( Information Department of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariat )

At its regular meeting on December 22, the Parliamentary Committee on Free Speech and Information Policy considered the bill No. 5008 prepared for second reading On Amendments To Some Laws Of Ukraine Touching Establishment Of Printed Media By Ministry Of Defense Of Ukraine And Military-Civil Administrations During The Period Of The Anti-Terrorist Operation.

The bill offers to supplement effective Law of Ukraine On Printed Media Organizations In Ukraine with Article 8-1 that envisions conditions and order of establishment of printed media by the Ministry of Defense and military-civil administrations.

The bill offers not to spread the Law of Ukraine On Reformation Of State-Owned And Municipal Mass Media Organizations on printed media founded by the Ministry of Defense and military-civil administrations during the period of the anti-terrorist operation.

Having considered a number of remarks and proposals of the legislative initiative, the Committee supported a part of them.

It was decided to recommend that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopt the bill No. 5008 in second reading and on the whole.

Chair of the Committee Viktoriya Siumar suggested summarizing the work done in 2016 and recalled a number of priorities in work of the Committee for 2017.

Next year, one of the most important tasks of the Committee will have to be further work on the draft basic Law on audiovisual services.
